EXPERTISE BUILT THROUGH TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Dr. James Murphy is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult mental health, with particular expertise in autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, and complex neuropsychiatric conditions. After earning his medical degree, completing residency training in psychiatry, and fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry, he has spent nearly a decade caring for patients across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and academic medical settings.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Murphy has served in senior physician leadership roles within major health systems, helped shape behavioral health programs and policy, taught and mentored the next generation of psychiatrists, and contributed to research and quality improvement initiatives that have improved access to psychiatric care.

He believes exceptional psychiatric care begins with listening carefully, taking the time to understand the whole person, and developing thoughtful, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each individual’s goals. Through Murphy Neuropsychiatry, Dr. Murphy combines the depth of experience found in large academic centers with the accessibility, flexibility, and personalized attention, providing comprehensive evaluations and treatment for children, adolescents, young adults, and adults.

our philosophy

UNDERSTANDING COMES BEFORE TREATMENT

Psychiatric symptoms rarely tell the whole story.

Two people may experience similar symptoms for entirely different reasons. Anxiety may reflect an anxiety disorder, years of chronic masking, ADHD, autism, trauma, or a combination of many factors. Effective treatment begins by understanding the individual behind the symptoms.

Murphy Neuropsychiatry takes a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment. Rather than relying on brief checklists or one-size-fits-all recommendations, every evaluation considers developmental history, medical factors, life experiences, strengths, challenges, and personal goals.

For many individuals, understanding themselves more fully becomes the foundation for meaningful treatment, healthier relationships, improved functioning, and greater self-acceptance.
